If you have driven to a UK airport in the last few years, you have probably stared at a comparison page wondering whether to pay for Meet & Greet or save with Park & Ride. The two services solve the same problem in very different ways. This guide explains what actually happens with each, when one beats the other on price and time, and how to choose for your specific trip.

What is airport Meet & Greet parking?

Meet & Greet is door-to-terminal valet. You drive your car to the airport's drop-off or set-down zone, hand the keys to a uniformed driver from the parking operator, and walk straight into the terminal. The operator drives your car to a secure off-airport compound. On return, you collect your luggage, message the driver, and the car is brought back to the same set-down zone for you to drive away.

What you pay for: a chauffeur on both ends, off-airport secure storage, and zero shuttle time. What you do not pay for in some cases: the airport's barrier or forecourt fee, which the operator sometimes covers on the drop-off side but rarely on the return. Always check the listing for which side is included.

What is airport Park & Ride parking?

Park & Ride is the volume product. You drive to an off-airport compound a few miles from the terminal, park your own car, and take a free shuttle bus to the terminal. On return, the shuttle picks you up from a designated stand and runs you back to your car.

What you pay for: a secure compound with CCTV and (usually) Park Mark accreditation, a regular shuttle service, and a price that is often half the cost of Meet & Greet. What costs you time: the shuttle ride, which adds 10 to 20 minutes each way depending on the operator and time of day.

How they compare on price

Across our six covered UK airports, Meet & Greet typically runs 30 to 60 percent more than Park & Ride for the same number of days. At Bristol Airport, for example, Bristol Sky Park's Meet & Greet 7 day rate sits at around £75 (with the £8.50 airport barrier fee on return paid separately by you). The same operator's Park & Ride for the same dates runs around £69 with all barrier tolls included. Manchester is a similar story: Secure Airport Transfer Meet & Greet at Terminal 2 typically lands £15 to £25 above Manchester Park & Ride for a week, depending on dates.

The shorter your trip, the smaller the percentage gap on price. The longer your trip, the more Park & Ride pulls ahead.

How they compare on time

Meet & Greet is faster on the kerb side. You park, the driver appears, you walk into the terminal. Total kerb-to-check-in time is often under 5 minutes. On return, your car arrives within 15 to 30 minutes of you calling.

Park & Ride adds shuttle time. From a typical off-airport compound, the bus takes 5 to 12 minutes each way, plus waiting time of 5 to 15 minutes for the next departure. Total kerb-to-check-in is usually 20 to 40 minutes including the shuttle, depending on the operator's frequency.

If you are travelling with small children, heavy luggage, mobility constraints or a tight check-in window, Meet & Greet's time saving is real and often worth the premium.

When Meet & Greet wins

  • Long-haul departures. The convenience premium feels small compared to the cost of the trip itself.
  • Tight schedules. Meeting a driver at the kerb avoids any chance of missing the next shuttle.
  • Multiple bags or mobility issues. Skipping the shuttle saves carrying luggage twice.
  • Early morning departures. Some Park & Ride shuttles run less frequently before 5am.
  • Bad weather. A short walk into the terminal beats waiting at a shuttle stand in the rain.

When Park & Ride wins

  • Long stays of 7+ days. The price gap widens significantly the longer you are away.
  • Family travel on a budget. Saving £40 or £50 on parking is worth the 15 minute shuttle.
  • Pre-booked early arrivals. If you are not in a rush, the shuttle adds time but no real friction.
  • Off-peak departures. Mid-morning and afternoon departures hit shuttles at quieter times.
  • Drivers who prefer to keep their own keys with them. Some travellers simply prefer not handing the car over to a third party.

The hidden costs to check

  1. Barrier fees on the customer side. Some Meet & Greet operators include the drop-off barrier fee but make you pay the return fee yourself. Bristol Airport's Drop Off and Pick Up car park, for example, charges £8.50 for up to 10 minutes on return as of 5 January 2026, payable by you at the barrier. Read the full Bristol drop off breakdown.
  2. Distance markup. Some Meet & Greet operators add miles to your odometer driving from kerb to compound. The honest ones cap this at a few miles; the bad ones can add 15 to 20.
  3. Cancellation policy. Park & Ride operators generally offer more flexible cancellation than Meet & Greet. Always check the cancellation line on the listing.
  4. Park Mark badge. Both service types should be Park Mark accredited where the operator qualifies. What Park Mark actually guarantees.

Frequently asked questions

Is Meet & Greet parking safe?

Yes, when booked through a Park Mark accredited operator. The driver is uniformed and insured; the compound is secured and monitored. Photograph your car from all angles before handing over the keys, and raise any damage claim on the spot at the compound on return.

Does Meet & Greet include the airport barrier fee?

It depends on the operator and airport. Many include the drop-off side fee in the price; very few include the return fee. Check the listing carefully before booking.

Is Park & Ride safe overnight?

Yes, at any Park Mark accredited operator. CCTV, fencing and 24-hour security are standard. The badge means the British Parking Association has audited the site. More on Park Mark accreditation.

How early should I book?

14 days or more in advance is the sweet spot for the cheapest rates. Inside 7 days, prices climb sharply. Full breakdown of the booking window.
