What to check before you buy
- Medical cover limit. Look for a high emergency medical and repatriation limit, this is the part that matters most.
- Your destination. Make sure the policy covers where you are going; some exclude certain regions or activities.
- Cancellation cover. Check it is enough to cover your flights, parking and accommodation if you have to call the trip off.
- Existing medical conditions. Declare them honestly, an undeclared condition can void a claim.
- The excess. A low headline price often comes with a high excess you pay on every claim.
- Single trip vs annual. If you travel more than twice a year, an annual policy is usually cheaper overall.
