Stansted is London third-busiest airport and Ryanair European base, with a single terminal feeding three boarding piers (Satellites 1, 2 and 3) via shuttle transit. The parking market here is shaped by one fact: Ryanair carries 80% of passengers, fly-and-park is a high-volume routine, and the off-airport competition along the M11 corridor is fierce. This guide is the front door to every Stansted parking option, the rules that move the price most, and links to our deeper guides.
One terminal, three piers
Unlike Heathrow or Gatwick, Stansted has a single terminal building. All check-in and security happens centrally; once airside you ride a free transit shuttle to your boarding satellite:
- Satellite 1: Jet2, TUI, Eastern Airways, some leisure carriers, plus the new Essence by Escape lounge.
- Satellite 2: Ryanair (most departures).
- Satellite 3: Ryanair (overflow), some easyJet routes.
You can park anywhere at Stansted regardless of which satellite you fly from. There is no terminal split to worry about.
The five real Stansted parking products
- Short Stay (close-in). Multi-storey within 2 to 3 minute walk of the terminal. Premium-priced, useful only for under 24 hours.
- Mid Stay. 5 minute shuttle, 24/7. Middle-priced, sensible for 1 to 2 night trips.
- Long Stay (on-airport). The cheapest official option. 5 to 10 minute shuttle, 24/7. Pre-book from £71.99 for 8 nights.
- Off-airport Park and Ride. A120 / M11 corridor sites with their own shuttles. Open from £5.85 per day.
- Off-airport Meet and Greet. Drive to the forecourt, hand keys to a uniformed driver, walk in. Zero shuttle either end.
The £10 drop-off rule
The Stansted Express Set Down forecourt charges £10 for up to 15 minutes per visit, increased from £7 on 19 March 2026. Stay 15 to 30 minutes and the charge jumps to £28 (which is a clear deterrent against using the forecourt as a waiting area). ANPR enforced. Rules that move the price most
- Book 4 to 12 weeks ahead. Walk-up rates are 2 to 3x pre-booked. Stansted has one of the larger walk-up-vs-pre-book gaps in the UK.
- Pick Saver / Non-Flexible tiers if dates are firm. 15 to 25% cheaper than fully flexible.
- Trip length flattens the rate. Per-night drops sharply between 3 and 7 nights.
- Ryanair school-holiday spikes. Half-term, Easter, summer and Christmas push every Stansted product up 15 to 30%.
- Stansted Express alternative. Single fare from Liverpool Street is £24.70, 51 minutes. For solo travellers from central London this can beat parking + tube on total cost. Off the table for Ryanair routes with checked bags.
Which product fits your trip
Day trip or 24-hour business
Short Stay. Premium for 24 hours is small, you skip both shuttles, you arrive at your car already at the terminal.
2 to 5 night break, family
Off-airport Meet and Greet. The 30 to 40 minute saving on a tired return with children justifies the £20 to £35 premium over Long Stay. Pick a Park Mark operator.
1 to 2 week Ryanair holiday, couple
Long Stay on-airport. The 5 to 10 minute shuttle is fine when well-rested, and the per-night rate beats every alternative on this trip length.
Late-night return (post 23:00)
Off-airport Meet and Greet. Long Stay shuttles run 24/7 but late-night wait queues build. Meet and Greet skips both.
Solo from central London with no luggage
Stansted Express. Parking is rarely the right answer if you have one bag and no companions.
Common mistakes
- Booking Short Stay for a week. Hourly rate is punitive past 24 hours. Always pick Long Stay or Meet and Greet for multi-day.
- Ignoring the £10 drop-off. Up from £7 just months ago, and £28 if you stay over 15 minutes.
- Walking up to Long Stay without booking. 200%+ price gap to pre-booked.
- Not checking Park Mark on off-airport. Some smaller M11 corridor operators are not accredited.
- Picking Non-Flexible with at-risk dates. Ryanair changes routes seasonally; date changes lose the booking.

The honest one-line answer
For most Stansted travellers, on-airport Long Stay booked 4 to 8 weeks ahead is the right combination of price, security and shuttle reliability. Off-airport Meet and Greet wins for families on short trips. Short Stay is for hours, not days. The £10/15min drop-off is the convenience option but adds up fast across multiple visits.
