Southampton is the UK's busiest cruise port, with around 2 million passengers a year sailing from its five terminals — Ocean, City, Horizon, QE II and Mayflower. Cruise parking works a little differently from airport parking: stays usually run 7 to 14 days to match the itinerary, and the cheapest way to park is almost always to book an off-port space ahead rather than pay the terminal car park's gate rate.
Park & Ride vs Park & Walk
Park & Ride: you park at a secure off-port compound and a shuttle takes you directly to your cruise terminal. Simplest if you have heavy luggage or a mobility need.
Park & Walk (also called Park & Stroll): you drop your luggage at the terminal first, then park nearby and walk back. It is usually the cheapest option. Walk times depend on your terminal — roughly Ocean 15 to 19 minutes, City 20 to 25, Horizon 25 to 30, QE II 30 to 35, and Mayflower around 50. Most Park & Walk operators offer an optional shuttle (around £15 each way) if the walk does not suit.
How to get the cheapest Southampton cruise parking
- Book early. Cruise-season weekends — Easter, summer holidays, Christmas — sell out weeks ahead.
- Confirm your terminal first. On a busy Saturday several ships embark at once, and your shuttle or walk distance depends on which terminal you are sailing from.
- Drop luggage at the terminal before you park — far easier than wheeling cases from the car park to the ship.
- Look for Park Mark accreditation — most licensed cruise-port operators carry it, and we badge it on every listing.

Getting to the port
From the M27, exit at junction 3 onto the M271 and follow signs to the Western Docks; from the M3 southbound follow signs to Southampton, then the docks. Saturday mornings in cruise season peak between 9am and noon — arrive earlier or later if your embarkation slot allows. If you have a long drive and an early slot, an overnight stay-and-park hotel bundle the night before is often worth it.
