If you are searching for parking at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, there is one thing worth knowing before you go any further: the airport has no passenger flights, and is not expected to have any until 2028. There is nothing to park for yet. Here is the honest position, and where people flying from South Yorkshire are actually parking in the meantime.

Is Doncaster Sheffield Airport open?

Not to passengers. The airport closed in November 2022 after its owner, Peel Group, concluded it could not make the finances work. Since then South Yorkshire's leaders have approved a £160m funding package to bring it back, and the site itself has not been sold off, but reopening an airport is slow work. As things stand in July 2026, no airline is selling seats from Doncaster.

When will Doncaster Sheffield Airport reopen?

The current plan runs in two stages. Cargo and freight flights are targeted for late 2026 into 2027, having slipped from an earlier summer 2026 estimate. Passenger flights are projected for winter 2027/28, and the South Yorkshire Mayor has publicly suggested that in practice it means 2028. Those dates have moved more than once, so treat any firm-sounding date with caution.

Can I book parking at Doncaster Sheffield Airport?

No, and you should be wary of any site that offers to sell you some. There are no scheduled passenger services, so there is no airport parking operation to book. We would rather tell you that than take a booking for a car park you cannot use.

Which airport should I use instead of Doncaster?

It depends which way you are heading, but four are within reasonable reach of Doncaster:

  • Leeds Bradford (LBA), roughly 45 miles north west. The closest airport with a decent short-haul network, and the one most ex-Doncaster passengers have moved to.
  • Manchester (MAN), roughly 70 miles west. Much the biggest choice of destinations, including long-haul, and the widest range of car parks and prices.
  • East Midlands (EMA), roughly 60 miles south. Strong on package and budget routes, and consistently one of the cheapest UK airports to park at.
  • Humberside (HUY), roughly 45 miles east. Small, handy if you live towards Scunthorpe or Grimsby, though the route map is limited.

We compare live parking prices at Leeds Bradford, Manchester and East Midlands. We do not yet cover Humberside, and we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.

Is it cheaper to park at Leeds Bradford or Manchester?

Manchester usually wins on choice and often on price, simply because it has far more car parks competing for the same passengers. Leeds Bradford is closer to Doncaster, so you may spend less on fuel and time getting there. The gap changes constantly, so it is worth comparing both for your actual dates before deciding.

What happened to Robin Hood Airport?

Robin Hood Airport was the old name for the same place. It opened in 2005 on the former RAF Finningley site, was renamed Doncaster Sheffield Airport, and closed to passengers in November 2022. If you have seen old parking listings under the Robin Hood name, they relate to an operation that no longer exists.
